Dear Friends,
This week, someone out there in cyberspace took it upon themselves to text many of my telephone contacts and impersonate me, asking for Apple I-phone gift cards for women cancer patients. It was from a number with a (202) area code. My cell area code is a different one. It was not me.
We will not contact you from church and ask for your help in this way--especially by text message. Be aware of these scams. I suggest you block the number, report it as spam, and/or delete the number. Unfortunately, these and other scams are out there and can be very confusing.
I am very sorry. The "silver lining" was that I got to talk to many of you and you were very gracious in wanting to help! I will continue to do everything I can in the future to prevent this from happening again.
Blessings, Pastor Mary |

Thank you from The Society of St. Andrew ~Chesley Vohden, Director of Church Relations~ |
Thank you BUMC for making The Society of St. Andrew your partner in ending hunger. Through your gift, you shared fresh, nutritious produce with people who simply don't have enough to eat. Your gift helps The Society of St. Andrew continue to work on the frontlines with volunteer gleaners in hands-on mission and service, rescuing food that would have been lost as waste and using it to feed hungry Americans. Through The Society of St. Andrew's network, every $1 given puts 20 servings of healthy food on the tables of people in the greatest need. |
Thank you from UMC Global Ministries/UMCOR Roland Fernandes, General Secretary |
The people your church helped with a gift to UMCOR may never have an opportunity to meet you, but if they did their response would likely be "Thank you!" Your financial support serves a vital network of interactive relationships the U.S.A. and 60+ countries in which UMCOR and partnering agencies engage in direct ministries to persons in need. May we continue to reveal the love of God to people of all backgrounds and demonstrate the healing power of the gospel to those who suffer. |
